Oasis For Girls is looking for a CREATE Arts Education Intern for this Fall!  This is a unique opportunity to be mentored by a working artist as well as, gain hands on experience working in the youth development field with high school girls.  The posting is below and applications are due Friday, August 23rd, so please post widely!

About Oasis For Girls:
The mission of Oasis For Girls is to partner with girls and young women of color from under-resourced communities to help them cultivate the skills, knowledge, and confidence to discover their dreams and build strongfutures.
About Our Programs:
Our Springboard Series for girls is a year long sequence that emphasizes the development of both internal awareness and external skills. The Series provides girls with opportunities to create trusting relationships with positive, supportive adults, to develop a sense of identity and partnership with their group, and to build and practice key skills.
RISE Life-Skills Education:
· “Discovering Myself” focuses on positive decision making to navigate the challenges of adolescence. Workshop topics include safer sex, self defense, healthy relationships, nutrition, and more.
CREATE Arts Education:
· “Discovering My World” emphasizes the development of creative writing skills toward improved academic performance and healthy self expression. The Arts Education program is offered through an innovative collaboration with WritersCorps.
ENVISION College & Career:
· “Building My Future” combines hands-on technology training, academic support, and job readiness skills to support young women in paving a path to school and career.
The Springboard Series is offered three times per year, 2-4 hours per day, in 8-12 week sessions. Participants earn $300-500 stipends during their tenure in the program.
About Our Girls
Oasis For Girls focuses on low income immigrant girls and girls of color, ages 14-17, in San Francisco. We strive to work with girls who are “on the edge” of risk; those who are “off the radar” or unnoticed, disengaged and undersupported; and those who have just begun dabbling in difficulty.
Description of Position:
Oasis For Girls is seeking a CREATE Intern to provide administrative and programmatic support to our partner, WritersCorps, in planning, implementing, and evaluating the CREATE program. The program runs September 17th-December 6th, 2013 on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday from 4:30-6:30 pm and Intern must be available for all program sessions.

Reports to:
Executive Director

Responsibilities include:
· Program Assistance:
1. Program set up/ clean up support
2. Maintain program attendance records, as well as collect necessary forms from programparticipants
3. Oversee girl leadership roles and responsibilities in the program
4. Provide behavior management and facilitation support to WritersCorps staff
5. Work individually with girls on arts projects
6. Act as chaperon on program field trips as necessary
· Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
· B.A. (or currently pursuing) in any relevant field including arts, education, social sciences, ethnic studies, women studies, or equivalent experience.
· Demonstrated experience working high school aged and slightly older who are low income & ethnically diverse.
· Interest in learning how to develop curriculum and art based learning projects.
· Ability to develop strong relationships and work closely with diverse individuals and organizations.
· Ability to work independently and is self-motivated.
· Effective time management and organization skills.
· Clear and effective communication skills.
· Strong problem solving skills, flexibility, and positive work ethic.
· Familiarity with young women’s issues and urban youth issues.
· Commitment to social justice.

Desired Qualifications:
· Experience creating and implementing innovative, creative & quality programming for youth.
· Bilingualin Spanish or Asian language.
· Positive outlook, high energy, and attitude.

Compensation:
This is a 10-12 hour/week unpaid volunteer position.
